Biography

Bandoneon player, composer, arranger and musical director, Binelli has had and outstanding international career. He was for 10 years a member of Osvaldo Pugliese's Orchestra and took part in several tours around Europe, the United States and Japan.

He joined the "Orquesta de Atilio Stampone" and the "Orquesta del Tango de Buenos Aires" as a bandoneon soloist.

In 1989 he was specially invited by Astor Piazzolla to join Piazzolla's New Tango Sextet and toured widely in Europe and Latin America.

Between 1990 and 1997 he worked as the musical director, arranger and bandoneon soloist in the music and dance show "Tango x 2', which had a great success in the USA, Europe and Japan. Together with guitar player Hugo Romero, he recorded 2 CDs of this duet for Argentina and Japan.

He is the director of his own group, "Daniel Binelli Quinteto" which toured in Japan, Europe and the Americas, joining the Italian singer Milva. The CD "Milva, el tango de Astor Piazzolla" was the result of this union.

Some other groups in which he took part are: "Quinteto Guardia Nueva" (1970), "Quinteto Hugo Baralis (1973)", "Generación 0"(1974), "Grupo Alas" (1977), "Orquesta de Osvaldo Requena" (1986/7), "Tango 7" (1992).

In 1995, he was awarded with the Konex Prize of popular music in the category "Tango Performers".

In 1995, he took part of the recording of a CD of Astor Piazzolla's work, together with Gary Burton, the outstanding jazz vibraphone player. He also participated in concerts of Paquito D'Rivera together with the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra.

Since 1997 he has been playing in a duet with the Argentine guitar player Eduardo Isaac with whom he recorded the CD "Argentine Master", together with the "Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional" conducted by Pedro Ignacio Calderón and also "La Música Argentina y el Tango".

Since 2000 he forms a duet with pianist Polly Ferman in which they play music of Latin American composers such as Piazzolla, Cobian, Ginastera, Ariel Ramirez, Rene Vargas and Cluzeu Mortet in original versions. This work was recorded on a CD called "Imágenes" published in Argentina by Revista Clásica (see details).

In October, 2000 he was specially invited by Charles Dutoit to play music of Astor Piazzolla together with Montreal Symphonic Orchestra. A CD was also recorded under Decca label and will be available soon. Guitar player Eduardo Issac plays in this recording as well.

As a bandoneon soloist he performed and made several recordings of works by Astor Piazzolla with well known symphony and chamber orchestras from all over the world: "Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional" from Argentina, "Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires" from Argentina, "Camerata Bariloche" from Argentina, Fort Worth Symphonic Orchestra (Texas, USA), Ottawa Symphonic Orchestra (Canada), "Filarmónica de Bogota" (Colombia), "Sinfónica Simon Bolivar" (Venezuela), Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra (Australia), and Knoxville Symphonic Orchestra (Tennessee, USA)

These Orchestras previously mentioned were conducted by directors such Lalo Schifrin, Franz Fuente, Simon Blech, José Carli, Isaiah Jackson, Jamil Maluf, Alfredo Rugeles, Francisco Rettig y Germán Gutierrez, among others.
