American classical music featured prominently at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas last
weekend and the emphasis was tango.
The appearance of Daniel Binelli, one of Argentina's foremost exponents of the instrument
known as bandoneon made it a night to remember. The combination of the accordion-like
bandoneon and orchestral music and the music of tango has been for the most part an
Argentine feature, especially in the hands of the legendary composer and virtuoso
bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla.
Binelli is regarded as the torchbearer of Piazolla's music since the later death in 1992.
